چکیده

Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is the second most common tumor of the liver after hepatic hemangioma. FNH is usually asymptomatic, rarely grows or bleeds, and has no malignant potential. Therefore, FNH is discovered in most patients incidentally during cross-sectional imaging, angiography, radionuclide liver scanning, or surgery. Although FNH usually has no clinical significance, recognition of its radiologic characteristics is important to avoiding unnecessary surgery, biopsy, and follow-up imaging. Despite advances in imaging techniques, it is still difficult to distinguish between FNH and other focal hepatic lesions. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) represents a significant breakthrough in sonography and is being increasingly used to evaluate focal liver lesions. Herein we present a case of FNH of the liver and its characteristic CEUS features.

Confluent focal nodular hyperplasia mimicking liver cancer: value of liver-specific contrast-enhanced MRI for diagnosis.

Focal nodular hyperplasia is the second most common benign hepatic tumor. Unlike adenoma as well as the malignant neoplasms, focal nodular hyperplasia can often be managed successfully without surgery. Use of liver-specific contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging allows clinicians to confirm the diagnosis noninvasively in some patients, allowing select patients to avoid surgery. We report ...

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the detection and characterization of liver tumors

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has unique advantages over contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the characterization of hepatic tumors. These include the capability of real-time dynamic imaging depicting the enhancement pattern of tumors regardless of its rapidity, purely intravascular properties of the microbubble contrast agents more consistent...

Focal nodular hyperplasia: a review of current indications for and outcomes of hepatic resection.

BACKGROUND Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a common benign disease of the liver with no recognized potential for malignant transformation. The term describes an entity of lobular proliferation of normally differentiated hepatocytes, frequently around a central fibrous scar. Two key issues influence surgical decision making in FNH: diagnostic certainty, and symptomatic assessment. METHODS A...

OBJECTIVE To determine the optimal bolus injection rate of ultrasound (US) contrast agent in vascular imaging for focal liver lesions. METHODS Thirteen patients with 13 focal liver lesions (5 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) with cirrhosis, 4 liver metastases, 2 hemangiomas, 1 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, 1 focal nodular hyperplasia) received two bolus injections of Sonazoid (at 0.5 and 2...
